Real World Evidence is a key part of every area of Sanofi’s business—from providing deeper insights into customer needs and behaviors, to monitoring adherence, shaping clinical trial design, supporting decision-making, and everything in between. But with so much data available these days and the rise of AI and machine learning techniques, we need a better way to unlock deeper insights from the data we already have.

That’s why internally Sanofi had already started putting together a team to create a platform called RAPID (Real-World Analytics Platform for Insight Discovery). The RAPID team has built an initial MVP that focuses on answering the “how many of” question that formed the starting point for most studies. To guide their next phase of development, they asked us to:

  • Better understand RWD users and needs

  • Validate the vision for the RAPID tool and provide a roadmap for releases over a 2-year timeline

  • Identify differentiating experiences for the future experience

  • Provide UI design directions

Sanofi employees and their needs?

With some relying on internal Sanofi teams or external vendors to handle RWD and/or generate RWE, there is an opportunity for RAPID to enable users to become self-sufficient.

  • HMW: Empower users to take insight generation into their own hands.

There are issues around time and accessibility of data when it comes to some of the current methods around handling RWD and generating RWE, with lack of access often contributing to long query times.

  • HMW: Reducing overall query time and making data more accessible.

Some teams having to come up with their own solutions based on their specific requirements, often involving pulling information together from a range of sources and having various sources of truth that they need to make sense of.

  • HMW: Make RAPID the central go-to place for data and processing at Sanofi.

Creating Signature experiences

We believe that creating signature experiences is key to building relationships with users.  Signature Experiences are a way to show where value is created in the user journey; they possess an influence that’s greater than the sum of their parts, making them a great way to build deeper, more lasting relationships between your employees and your business, and potentially future customers.

We created 3 x signature experiences for Sanofi RAPID. The 3 experience tracks were created on the basis of our two key user archetypes (The Occasional Searcher, The Ingenious Adapter), as well as by understanding the key interactions that make the biggest impact on your relationship with your users.

When it comes to prototyping, speed is of the essence.

We created a design system that made it easy for both product designers to work together, so they can create similar designs simultaneously. Our design system also makes it possible for us to create clickable prototypes in under two weeks.
